Tax Exempt University Purchases
New Jersey Institute of Technology New Jersey Sales Tax Exemption Letter
Provided to NJIT by the State of New Jersey, this letter confirms NJIT's exemption from sales and use taxes on most purchases made in-state by authorized personnel. Correspondence to the vendor on university letterhead, or an official purchase order, is sufficient proof of exemption.
For cash purchases under $150, please complete and present Form ST-4 to the vendor.
Note that the exemption applies to all goods and services not otherwise exempt from sales tax (such as clothing and certain food), with the exception of local occupancy tax.
